Understanding PR
One of the more questionable variables in the net world is, naturally, Page Rank or PR. Developed by one of the cofunders of Google whose surname was Page (that’s the reason of the Page Rank), Page Rank changes 4 times a year (more or less) and has no strong changes. It’s important to realize that there is not a fixed data for changes, it could take three months or more, or a couple of weeks.
What PR is and is not
PR and its algorithms serves for measuring quality and quantity of backlinks pointing to a single page.
PR identifies the link power of a single page. More back links to it, and more critical they are , more PR you will have.
PR isn't a tool for measuring the link power for a site. Why? Because it only refers to individual pages. It does not measures just homepage, but all the others, and remember, your Index page might be not the page from your website with the higher pR.
Is this possible? Totally. In a website, I have made a special S.E.O work for positioning under the keyword “marketing digital“, so I’ve made a big work building high quality white links. The result could be that a single page could rank with a Page Rank 4, and its index page istead have a Page Rank 3
What Page Rank is for
PR is merely an component that most net specialists and S.E.O pros use for identifying the link strength in a determinate page when controlling S.E.O probabilities for a concrete keyword.
In other words: when we want to make a SEO word for one keyword, and develop a challenge scanner, one of the main things is to control quantity and quality of the backlinks that that competition has, and stop.
